FEDRO's noise data in a new look

No more dusty desktop applications and cumbersome Access databases. The noise pollution register developed by Grolimund + Partner for FEDRO deserved a complete overhaul. G+P replaced the outdated MISTRA LBK instant solution application with a modern and intuitive web application. The new specialist application ASTRA LB was successfully put into operation on November 20.

ASTRA LB in operation

All data on noise abatement along national roads is recorded and managed in ASTRA LB. The new application was developed in close collaboration with the noise specialists at FEDRO and EBP's project support team. In addition to expanding the functionality, great importance was attached to user-friendliness.

The successful completion of the development phase of ASTRA LB is an important milestone in the history of Grolimund + Partner.

Smooth transition from MISTRA LBK to ASTRA LB

Three priorities were set when planning the launch: extensive testing of the software enhancements, careful data migration and user training.

In the weeks leading up to the launch, two training courses were offered for FEDRO employees, as well as a webinar and three training courses for external users. In total, almost 40 users from several engineering offices took part in the training courses.

During the actual migration, the application (MISTRA LBK/ASTRA LB) was only offline for two days.

Facts about ASTRA LB

ASTRA LB is based on Decibase. The web application is fully integrated into the IT infrastructure of the Federal Office of Information Technology FOITT. Access authorization for internal and external users is controlled by the federal government's central access and authorization system "eIAM". The application currently has around 100 registered users.

Among other things, ASTRA LB manages the data of approx. 120,000 buildings, 550,000 calculation points, 16,000 road sections and 2,000 noise barriers.

As part of the project, the range of functions for recording and processing data was expanded and improved. Some examples:

  • All data can be edited within projects. Access rights can be controlled per project.
  • The new import wizard guides you through the process step by step via data selection and validation. Imports are possible from geodata formats (GeoPackage, Shapefile etc.) as well as from Excel and Csv files.

Decibase - the modern web application for managing your noise data

Grolimund + Partner has many years of experience in the collection, calculation and analysis of noise data. This know-how has been incorporated into our Decibase web application.

Decibase provides easy access to noise data. In addition to noise pollution, all information from the implementation of noise abatement can be recorded and managed.

The most important advantages of Decibase are

  • Find information quickly: For noise issues, you can find the information you need using search terms or via the map.

  • Access via the web: Application and data are centrally installed and accessible via the web browser.

  • Interfaces: Integrate customer-specific maps from GIS services, export to Office and geodata formats and to the Minimal Geodata Model.

  • Customized statistics: Statistics tailored to your needs and individual selection of data for special analyses.

  • Monitoring: When integrating data from the cadastral noise model: observe and monitor developments.

  • sonROAD18: Manage traffic and pavement data, calculate emissions directly in the application.

  • Basis for planning and forecasting: Evaluations with Decibase form a valuable basis for planning and forecasting.
